Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 September 2026

Protend (“we”, “us”) builds digital products for businesses and organizations in Tanzania. This policy explains what information we collect on this website, protend.tz, and in Barua, our internal email tool, and how we use and protect it. Our other products, such as Duka365, Pamoja, Waalikwa and Biblia Yangu, have their own privacy policies on their websites.

Information we collect on this website

We do not ask you to create an account on protend.tz. We receive information only in the following ways:

  • When you contact us by email or WhatsApp, we receive your name, contact details and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you and to provide the service you asked about.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are from. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your browser type, device and IP address. You can learn how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, our server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for a limited time and are not used to identify you.

Barua and Google user data

Barua is an internal tool operated by Protend. It copies email received at Protend’s own email addresses (for example, addresses ending in @protend.tz) into the Gmail account of the Protend staff member who owns that address, so they can read all their mail in one place. It is not offered to the public.

When a Protend staff member connects their Google account, Barua asks for permission to:

  • Insert messages into their Gmail mailbox (gmail.insert), so that copied emails appear in their inbox; and
  • Manage their Gmail labels (gmail.labels), so that copied emails can be placed under a label such as “Protend-Org”.

Barua does not read, search, send, change or delete any existing email in the Gmail account. It does not request access to contacts, calendar, files or any other Google data.

Emails being copied pass through Barua in memory on our own server and are sent directly to Gmail. Barua does not store the content of emails. It does not use them for advertising, does not sell them, does not use them to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning models, and does not share them with anyone else. Its logs record only technical details (such as message numbers, dates and sizes), never senders, subjects or content.

The only Google data Barua keeps is the access token that lets it add messages to the connected account. It is stored securely on our server and can be revoked at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, after which Barua can no longer access the account.

Barua’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run our services, such as our hosting provider and Google (for analytics and Gmail), and only as far as needed for them to provide that service, or when required by law.

How we protect information

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS and TLS), keep secrets such as passwords and access tokens only on our servers with restricted access, and give each of our services only the access it needs.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
